Dehumidifier

If you are trying to remove moisture from your home that has been soaked from a flood or a plumbing leak, here are a few ways to get that moisture out before mold sets in.

Dehumidifiers are the best way to remove the soaked-in moisture in your home. Coupled with fans to circulate the air, you can put multiple dehumidifiers around the home where the water has soaked in.

Your central air conditioning system dehumidifies the air as it cools. Using it with dehumidifiers helps accelerate the drying process. If it is a cool time of year, you can alternate running your heat and air conditioning to increase the effectiveness of the AC’s dehumidifying. If you have upstairs and downstairs systems, you can put the downstairs on heat and the upstairs on cool. The units will fight each other for the temperature while they are dehumidifying the house. Remember, they must be two separate systems for this to work, not just a zoned system.

When the weather is dry outside, you can open the windows. Some warm, sunny, winter days allow the relative humidity to drop below forty percent and the temperature to hover above sixty degrees. When that is the case, it is a good time to open the doors and windows and get as many fans going as possible to get that dry outside air circulating throughout the house. Of course, when it gets cool in the evening and the relative humidity rises, you will want to close up the house and use another method to draw out the moisture.
